Some reading is just plain fun, and educational too! On this page I will share fun reading that is really important as well. Here's one we really enjoyed. You could do these as read alouds if that fits your lifestyle or you can just hand it to your kid and wait to hear what they have to say,
I did it as a read aloud and really loved to learn about how a Quaker lad learned how to paint with his own primitive brushes......won't say made from what.......and homemade paints, on the sneak because it was against his Quaker religion.
it would even be fun for kids to try they're hand at making their own paints from nature.
I found a series of youtube videos that teaches how to do just that:
And here is the link for the book: Benjamin West and his Cat Gramalkin

A boy is told that his father was a brave and virtuous man, a soldier who traded his life to save the lives of countless others. He was the man that Hunter needed to emulate. The only problem is the whole story is a lie, all of it. The truth, which Hunter discovers as he begins his sophomore year of high school, is that his father has actually spent the boy's entire life in jail, paying his debt to society, but not mending his ways. A wild mustang mare is rounded up by the BLM. The spring rains had been sparse, the forage on the plains even more so. The mare and her herd are rescued from certain starvation and placed for adoption. In a sandy corral at Promise Ranch, a home for troubled teenage boys, the boy and the mare meet. A weathered, old cowboy brings them together - a mentor for one, a trainer for the other. The bond that forms between boy and horse becomes one that saves the lives of both
The heartwarming true story of a blind horse named Joey. At the height of his show career, this beautiful Appaloosa’s majestic stature, strength, and willingness to work made him the perfect partner. But when an injury cost Joey his show career, he moved from one owner to the next, ultimately experiencing severe abuse and neglect. A rescue group found Joey nearly dead from starvation―and blind. Then he came to Hope Reins―a ranch dedicated to helping hurting kids who had been abused, emotionally wounded, or unwanted. By teaching these children to care for rescued animals, the Hope Reins staff were convinced they could reach kids with love and hope and show them that we are never forgotten by God. But could the financially struggling ranch afford to take care of a blind horse that no one else wanted? Could Joey somehow learn to trust people even though the world had hurt him so badly? And what would happen―to Joey, the kids, and Hope Reins―if they failed? A true story of friendship destined to become a classic, Joey will touch your heart and reveal the power of finding light in the darkness.
