Watch this video of the message sent from the astronauts on Apollo 8 to Earth while orbiting the moon for the first time.

The day before Christmas, 1968. The astronauts of Apollo 8 read from Genesis as they orbited the moon for the first time, crossing the dark side and into the brilliant light of the sun. The reading, broadcast to the world, not only expressed the wonder experienced by the astronauts and marked the historic moment: the first time humans had flown to the moon and looked back at Earth.

Listening to the astronauts read Genesis 1and seeing Earth from Space gives us a deep awe of God. Here is a song that expresses the same awe of who God is.

This will be your toughest assignment you have had this far. But I'm confident that you can do it because you are accustomed to doing note booking pages by now. The only missing part is information which you will need to find for yourself.  Research the challenger tragedy on google and Youtube and do a notebooking page on Christy Mcauliffe and the Challenger.

Be careful not to go on rabbit trails and stay away from any questionable or vile content. You can never trust the internet. Keep your heart pure.

When you are done make sure that ALL your pages are in your BINDER and then let's CELEBRATE! You have conquered this Science course!

How in the World do I start?

Kids love to learn and do so naturally. All they need is guidance and enthusiasm. I hope to help you with both of these. This is a work in progress as I study with my own kids.   But let me introduce you to our learning style. I threw out all workbooks out of super frustration a long time ago and I haven't looked back, Not once. Other than to rejoice that I no longer have to be under that pressure.   When kids read a story they get involved and they assimilate it. They naturally come and regurgitate what they just read. Usually you don't even have to ask them. They are enthusiastic and they want you to know what they know.   With workbooks they seek information to answer questions and fill in blanks just to get the lesson done, and then promptly forget it all. Multiple choice is even worse.  While I believe in narration as a learning tool I also like to do notebooking because I like to document what they learn and they love their own books.   For a long time I made

So How Does Notebooking Work?

Notebooking has added a satisfying touch to schooling for me. I tried Lapbooking, which has the same purpose but is a bit more involved.    With Notebooking we have a theme page that has lines for writing, a printed picture and an empty spot for the kids to do their own drawing. Basically they have a paper they can fill with their own thoughts and creativity.   The beauty of it is, the kids create their own masterpeice about what they have learned and you as a mom can be satisfied that they are learning what they need to. Taking information and thinking it through and writing it on paper causes them to think about what they are learning. Plus you are documenting what they are learning.  I buy them each a binder and sheet protectors, You can use notebooking pages for pretty much every subject you cover. The only subjects I DON"T use them for is Math and Language Arts. Even though I am pretty sure you could use them for even those. Here is link to the Lifetime mem
